Compare Brisbane Airport Car Hire Options

If you’re not sure how much car hire will set you back - we’ve got you covered! No matter if you’re trying to stick to a budget, or trying to impress, you’ll find a wide range of vehicles to choose from at BNE. We found that on average, it will cost you $44.20 per day to rent a small car, $47.93 to rent an economy car, and $36.76 per day to rent an SUV, in the month of October 2020. Why are SUVs cheaper to rent? Likely because two or more hire car providers had special offers running - highlighting how it always pays to compare!

For an estimate of how much a hire car will cost you over the course of a week, please consult our table below. We sourced these rates by checking the major providers which operate out of the airport, and selecting the best offer available. Why did we list 7 days and 1 week? Because most car hire companies charge by each calendar day. That means, if you hire a car on a Monday, and return it on the following Monday, you’ll be charged for eight days, not seven.

Off-Site Hire Car Brisbane Airport

In addition to the companies listed above, there are some car rental providers that operate just outside of the Brisbane Airport grounds. Some will provide transfers to and from the airport on request, and generally charge lower rates than the on-site providers. Make sure you check your booking confirmation for more information on how to collect your vehicle. Most off-site car rental providers pick up from:

→ Domestic Terminal

The pick-up spot is adjacent to the P1 Car Park. Access the pick-up area via the Skywalk, then take the lift at the end of the walkway down to Level 1.

→ International Terminal

From Level 2 at the northern end of the Terminal, follow signs down the ramp to the pick-up area.

Frequently Asked Questions About Car Hire at Brisbane Airport

There are plenty of rules and regulations that come with hiring a car in Australia, which you’ll need to be aware of before you hit the road and leave the airport behind. The ideal way to find an affordable rental car is through the internet, using a comparison site or by heading directly to the homepages of the various rental providers. Not only does booking ahead unlock the best prices, but it ensures there’s a car ready and waiting for you when you arrive. Why risk driving away in a luxury sedan when you only wanted a compact runaround?

What is the Minimum Age to Rent a Car?

In Australia, drivers must be at least 21 years old to rent a vehicle and hold a full driving licence. You should be aware however, that the rules can differ between suppliers. Drivers under the age of 24 may be required to pay a daily underage surcharge, or could be restricted from hiring certain kinds of vehicles.

How Much is it to Rent a Car in Brisbane?

The price you’ll pay for a rental car is often dependent on the type of car you want to hire, the time of year, who you hire the car from, and where. Renting a car from the airport can be more expensive than renting one from the city for example.

How Do I Pay When Collecting My Hire Car?

When you are picking up your hire vehicle, you’ll need to pay via credit card. A small number of providers accept debit cards, but more often than not, you will need to have a credit card.

Do I Need to Pay a Security Deposit?

Most, if not all, hire car companies will ask you for a security deposit when you arrive to collect your car hire. This amount will vary depending on the type of vehicle you’re renting, how you are paying, and where you are collecting your rental car.

Do I Need to Purchase Insurance?

Many visitors to Australia, or those travelling from out of state purchase travel insurance or use the insurance offered through their credit card. It’s important to check the terms and conditions of your insurance policy to ensure that it covers car rentals.

Rental cars in Australia will have an excess amount when it comes to making an insurance claim. The excess is the amount that you will be liable to pay for any damage caused to the vehicle. You can buy excess reduction products from most rental car providers in order to reduce your financial liability.

Can I Use a Foreign Driving Licence?

Car rental companies in Australia generally accept English-language driving licences, as long as they have a photograph. If your driving licence is not in English, you will also need an International Driving Permit. Please note that car rental firms will not accept provisional licences - you will need to hold a full licence.
